Take a peek inside our incubator & brooder...

The Chick Crusade started on a field trip near the end of a school year. Our class happened upon an exhibit that featured chicks hatching, and we knew then that we wanted to expand our study of living things. It quickly became clear that we did not have enough time to incubate eggs for the required 21 days that year, but we vowed that the next school year would be different. We started our studies with “babies”…caterpillars, tadpoles and yes, chicks.

Our goal that school year was to care for several kinds of living things, both plant and animal and -in addition to the many academic benefits those things offer- to grow as caring and responsible members of a classroom community. We wanted chicks to be the beginning of something that never ended for our kids.
